Located at St Thomas’ of Villanova Parish School in Mareeba, this project delivered “Pelican Place”, a purpose-built covered interactive play area designed to support student wellbeing and active play within a Catholic primary school environment.
The development provides a vibrant and engaging space incorporating a range of play elements, including a rock climbing wall, slides, cargo net and climbing structures, all positioned under a roofed structure to allow year-round use and protection from the elements. Softfall zones were installed throughout to enhance safety, complemented by landscaped areas that create opportunities for quiet play, reading and reflection.
Inspired by the school’s symbol of the Pelican, representing generosity and self-giving, the facility has been thoughtfully designed to support both active and passive use. The completed “Pelican Place” delivers a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment that enhances the school’s recreational offering and enriches the overall student experience.
