Construction
Toowoomba
Stage 7 of the Queens Park Masterplan delivered the Vera Lacaze Park upgrade, marking the final phase of works within one of Toowoomba’s most iconic heritage parklands.
The project included construction of an interpretive shelter, heritage-inspired seating, accessible picnic shelters, BBQ facilities, drinking fountains, signage, bins and landscaped garden beds, all designed to enhance visitor amenity and connection to the park’s history. Careful preservation of original bluestone elements, historic fountains and the pedestrian bridge ensured the works remained respectful of the site’s Queensland Heritage Register listing. Bluestone cladding was self-performed to maintain craftsmanship and compliance with heritage standards.
Delivered within an active parkland setting hosting major community events, the project required meticulous staging, environmental risk management and continuous consultation with archaeologists and specialist arborists. Despite frequent flooding events and archaeological discoveries, proactive reprogramming and close stakeholder collaboration enabled on-time completion. The finished park provides a welcoming, functional and heritage-sensitive public space that strengthens the broader Queens Park precinct.
