The Newman Catholic College project represents a major staged education development delivered across three phases, providing a modern secondary school within the James Cook University campus at Smithfield. As Australia’s first Catholic secondary school co-located within a university environment, the project delivers contemporary, flexible learning facilities designed to support long-term growth and evolving education needs.

Stage 1 delivered a four-level main building accommodating up to 750 students, incorporating collaborative learning areas, specialist teaching facilities, a double-storey colonnade and an indoor sports hall. Stage 2 expanded the campus with a connected multi-storey building housing additional General Learning Areas, specialist art facilities and flexible teaching spaces, utilising prefabricated structural elements to enhance construction efficiency. Stage 3, currently under construction, will complete the masterplan with a new multi-storey building accommodating administration, additional learning spaces and seamless integration with the existing campus.

Delivered within live operational environments, including both an active university campus and functioning school, the project required careful staging, detailed logistics planning and strong stakeholder coordination. Despite tight timeframes, site constraints and broader industry challenges, the works were successfully delivered across multiple stages, reinforcing a strong client relationship and demonstrating capability in delivering large-scale, complex education facilities.
